FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT’S DESK

Welcome to the USD 298 Website.  The school year continues at a rapid pace and great things are happening in the district.  We appreciate the positive attitude of the students and staff in all of our buildings.  We are also grateful for the support we receive from our parents, district community members and our local businesses.

I want to congratulate Lincoln Elementary School and Lincoln Junior Senior High School for reaching the “Standard of Excellence” at the building level in Math and Reading.  My sincere appreciation goes to our students for taking the state assessments seriously.  Thanks to our staff for working to continually improve instruction and promoting student academic success.

Our school district and the Lincoln County Department of Health will continue to provide you with information about the H1N1 virus.  Together, we will be working to keep parents and patrons updated on what they can do to help prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus.  We have provided the opportunity for students and staff to take the seasonal flu vaccination.  When supplies of the H1N1 vaccine are available, the district will again work with the Health Department to vaccinate our students.  If you have specific questions about the virus, call your current medical provider or the Lincoln County Health Department at 785-524-4406.

As I mentioned in earlier postings, we will continue to monitor our district budget throughout the year as we prepare for additional budget cuts because of revenue shortfalls for the state of Kansas.  I would also like to thank all of our staff for their continued efforts to minimize spending during these difficult financial times.

We are pleased to announce that our girls and boys cross country teams took first place at the Regional Cross Country meet qualifying them for the state meet.  Kerra Cissne and James Farris both took first place in their respective races.  The following week both our girls and boys cross country teams placed fourth at the State Cross Country Meet in Wamego.  The individuals from our teams that placed individually at the state meet were Kerra Cissne taking 10th place, Jenna Farris taking 20th place and James Farris taking 4th place.

I encourage you to support our students by attending one of the many student activities, school programs, concerts, basketball games or wrestling events during the coming months.

Happy Holidays!
